Annual Dance Show
For those of you who aren’t aware, the society puts on a HUGE dance show every year at the end of March! All members can take part (either by dancing and/or choreographing) and showcase their talent to a sell-out audience during 3 amazing show nights! Check the timetable here!
- DANCE SHOW THEME
This year’s Dance show will be titled “PULSE: Step In Time”, where each piece will portray a particular era/decade/historical or futuristic event.
….stepping into “windows of time” showcasing dance from the very begginning of our existence, right into the future!! From Ballet to Hip Hop, Salsa to Tap… this show is extremely varied, diverse, crowd pleasing… basically in one word.. HYPE! and will definitely get you PULSE going!!
- INFORMATION FOR DANCERS
ALL Dance Soc members (both KCL and non-KCL members) can take part in the show as well as other individuals who are interested in getting involved!
Once we have chosen what choreography will be included in the show, a running order and audition timetable will be released over the Christmas holidays (via email/Facebook and uploaded onto the website).
Audition process and rehearsals
At the auditions in January, you will learn a routine and perform it back to the choreographer (it’s a fairly informal process!).
- Once you get into the piece, you will then have 9 weeks of rehearsal time including audition week (where you will have 1 hour of rehearsals per piece every week) until show week.
Auditions will begin on the week commencing 18th January
Please bear in mind that the rehearsals for each dance number will be held on the same day and time as the audition for the dance. There are only 9 weeks of rehearsals before the show and so commitment is essential.
You must be able to attend rehearsals during reading week and all major rehearsals during the show week.
All those participating in the show (i.e. dancers who will be performing on stage) will have to be Dance Soc members. You will not be allowed to perform on stage without membership (for insurance purposes), so if you do not have membership by Show Week you will not be able to perform in the show!!
You can audition for as many dances as you want!!!!
We encourage you to audition for more than one and try out as many styles as possible even if you’ve never tried or had not much experience in that style. Every year members have more and more fun doing acts they would not normally get involved in so give it a go coz you never know
However, you cannot be in 2 consecutive dance numbers in the show. There are no pauses between dance numbers (with the exception of the interval), so you will not be able to get back on stage on time if you are in 2 consecutive numbers!
