Project Zimbabwe
Project Zimbabwe is collaboration between students in Zimbabwe and students at King’s college London. The project has been running for the past 5 years and works as a partnership to empower healthcare students in Zimbabwe and UK to better each owns education. We are working towards setting up a clinical skills library in the only medical school in Zimbabwe and are also involved in sending books to one of the hospitals to benefit the continuing education of healthcare professionals. The students we partner with in Zimbabwe also have a desire to help others in their community who are less privileged than them, so a life skills program called Medyouth is being set up through this project to work in schools and teach young people on sexual health topics, oral hygiene and give career advice. Project Zimbabwe believe that through partnership we work best and together can empower students and young people to better their futures.
The Manna Society
The Manna Society is a registered charity which runs the Manna Day Centre. This is a day centre for homeless people, based near London Bridge and Guy’s Hospital. It was founded in 1982 and is currently attended by between 130 and 220 people daily. It is open for breakfast and lunch every day of the year and provides many other services. These include shower facilities, distribution of free clothes and furniture, housing and welfare advice, job advice, healthcare services and education and training services. It is currently run by a small number of paid staff as well as volunteers. Most of the income comes from donations and they also receive many food and clothes donations. In addition, their campaigning work aims to challenge the structures of society that lead to homelessness and poverty www.mannasociety.org.uk
