King’s College London Dance Society is one of the biggest and most successful student societies within the university circuit! Originally constituted to hold Street Dance and Ballet classes, today KCL Dance Soc have up to nine different dance styles to try! As well as offering Salsa, Ballroom and Latin classes, this year we also hold Hip Hop, Tap, Classical Jazz, Contemporary and even Burlesque classes!

Each year, Dance Soc plan, choreograph and deliver a sell-out show at the Greenwood Theatre. This event is arguably the biggest production in the Students’ Union, with a success that mirrors the Society’s size. In addition to being part of a great show, it is also an amazing chance have great fun rehearsing and performing!

Most people think that dancing is all about “jazz hands” and is merely for girls, yet KCL Dance Soc caters for all and has a strong masculine following - Last year there were five men on the committee! So if you’re male, come on down!

Finally, if you are a competition enthusiast, you’ll be pleased to know that the society enters competitions nationwide showcasing dance talent! Last year alone, the society won trophies at each of the competitions it was entered in, which included dance competitions in Edinburgh, Warwick and London!

I’ve been involved in Dance Soc for a few years now; enjoying classes, helping out and attending several awesome nights out. Each year there are so many fun memories and amazing dance classes for practically all tastes not to mention the nights out. Each year Dance Soc organise the most entertaining, fun and lively nights out you will ever experience and it’s a great chance to show off your dance moves on the floor or see a play or show you wouldn’t normally have seen - especially coz members get discounts most of the time!

As Social Sec and also as a fellow Dance Soc member now and in the past, I definitely recommend you get involved in some shape or form, maybe come to a few classes, try something new or even do a “Taster Workshop” or two. I would also suggest you definitely come out for a social or three to really make the most of your time here at KCL Dance Soc. There’s always the end of year show to look forward to, ask anyone who’s been a member of the soc before (or even check out the pictures and videos on the website) and they’ll all tell you how much fun and jokes and loads of great memories they get from doing the show.

So, as term is about to start or even has started (depending on when you read this) I wish you a happy time at KCL and hope to see you at a few classes AND a night out as well
